Our Story
Rhetoric was founded to make litigation insights actionable and legal persuasion simpler. Many products offer descriptive data about judicial outcomes and citations, some offer predictions about how judges might rule on motions, but no other platform marries analytics to drafting and oral argument preparation to provide prescriptive options for improving the persuasiveness of legal arguments like Rhetoric.
We look beyond citation and outcome data to inspect why judges rule as they do, paying special attention to the language they use. Using linguistic mirroring techniques that are proven to improve likelihood of success in litigation, Rhetoric analyzes judge language and provides actionable feedback on your motions, briefs, and even oral arguments. Plus, Rhetoric is not just for practicing lawyers. Students around the United States use Rhetoric to practice for moot court competitions, prepare for cold calls, warm up for employment interviews, and much more.

Luke Yingling
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
A published researcher and writer, Luke founded Rhetoric in 2021 while a 2L in law school. He holds a law and master’s degree, and his works on law, policy, and the courts have been published in peer-reviewed and popular outlets. As a former collegiate baseball player, Luke’s love of sports stats carried over to his professional life in the form of litigation stats. As a pitcher, Luke says he led his conference in grade point average per innings pitched (a fictitious stat of his own invention which is meant to distract people from how bad his actual pitching stats were). A West Virginian native, Luke is proud to have founded Rhetoric in his hometown of Ona, West Virginia.

Warren Patterson
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
An experienced engineer who survived Y2K, Warren is a Rhetoric co-founder and the company’s Chief Technology Officer. In previous roles he held various titles including Senior Engineer, Software Architect, and Chief Information Officer at institutions ranging from publicly traded corporations to state government. Warren’s expertise set the foundation for Rhetoric’s success. Outside of the office, Warren is an avid runner and bee keeping hobbyist.

Daniel Scarr
CHIEF PRODUCT OFFICER
Prior to co-founding Rhetoric, Daniel served as a Senior Product Development Specialist, developing technology for the Department of Defense. His early career path found him creating innovative tech products across the healthcare, fintech, and cyber-defense industries. Despite being the only non-lawyer in his family, Daniel says he is pleased to have found a career where he can combine his life-long love of technology with the “family business.” Daniel is a car and electric vehicle enthusiast, but don’t bring it up to him unless you have at least 30 minutes to spare.
